The old volcano Snaefellsjokull is covered with an impressive cap of Iceland snow, as it towers over the peninsula named after it. Enjoy wide-open stretches of soft sand beaches, all in 8 glorious days!
Saturday: Welcome to Iceland! You'll have an early arrival at Keflavik International Airport in Iceland, where your outfitter will pick you up and take you to your guesthouse in Reykjavik. Here you can stash your stuff, and set out to see some of Iceland's capital city. There are lots of things to do and see, and lots of places to try for lunch and dinner, which are on your own.
Sunday: Reykjavik-Stori-Kalfalaerkur-Grimsstadir After breakfast you'll be driven west to Snaefellsnes. On arriving at Stori-Kaflalerkur Farm, you'll meet the horses and set off on your adventure. The first day's ride, between four and six hours, will go through fertile farmlands and along very nice riding tracks to Grimstadir farm, where a good night's sleep awaits!
Monday: Grimsstadir-Langavatn You'll cross the salmon river Langa on the way into the mountains. The colors here are quite intense, with deep blue lakes hiding behind green hills and mountain. The cabin at Lake Langavatn is in a very pretty area, and after 6- 7 hours of riding, it will be nice to have a pleasant evenings rest!
Tuesday: Langavatn -Hitarholmur You can see the beauties of Lake Langavatn as you ride though Langavatnsdalur and Mjoldalur to Lake Hitarvatn. The Hitardalur is known for its lava formations and multicolored mountains - and keep you eye open for the trolls and giants which live here! You'll be 7-8 hours in the saddle today.
Wendesday: Hitarholmur-Stori-Kalfalaerkur The day starts at the round-up pen at Hitardalur and proceeds west across Hitara River. One of Iceland's most famous outlaws, Grettir had his hideout here amidst the lava and black sand. You'll head down to the sandy beaches, and pass Eldborarhraun lava field. Hot showers at the farm tonight!
Thursday: Stori-Kalfalaekur - Kolvidarnes - Lindartunga Time to hit the beach! You'll leave the mountains behind, ride down to the shore and spend most of the day there. The departure time will be determined by the tides, but, remember that the lights are always on during Iceland's long summer. The night will be spent at Lindartungal Community Center, with a hot geothermal swimming pool nearby
Friday: Lindartunga-Lysuholl The ride starts on Longufjorur, the famous riding trail on the shores of Snaefellsnes. You'll enjoy the views of lava-fields and mountains on one side and the Atlantic Ocean on the other side, and of course, the Mt Snaefellsness Glacier towering above. After 7-8 hours in the saddle, you'll spend the night at a school with a hot swimming pool!
Saturday: Lysuholl - Reykjavik After a restful morning, you'll head back to Reykjavik for another night at a guesthouse, and a chance to try another of Reykjavik's many restaurants.
Sunday: Farewell to Iceland! You'll have a long morning to relax and enjoy Reykjavik, before heading back to Keflavik Airport in the afternoon....unless you're lucky enough to be heading out for more Iceland exploration.
