PRICES and EXTRAS

All of our published prices include airfare (Our contract for air usually yields the best cost advantage to our clients). We also can give you a "Land Only" price for any thing you want in Iceland.

We've been taking and sending people to Iceland for 16 years and we've built a business around our expertise, good relationships with a carefully selected group of guides and outfitters, and a policy of fair pricing. We aim to make our tour prices as comprehensive as possible, by including airfare, with taxes and, (still-high) fuel surcharges, transfers and any extra accommodations you may need, mainly because of airline schedules, before or after your main tour.

Often our itineraries include a night extra before your tour starts because flying form the US lands you in Reykjavik at what your body considers very early morning and that first day can be disorienting.

We’re as clear as possible about what is included and what you’ll need to add – for some tours it’s just a couple of meals on arrival and departure days. You'll get a pretty specific itinerary for your tour, with lots of trip details and other useful info –clients tell us that the itinerary we send with their final package does a great job of preparing them for their trip – that they appreciate all the info!

We have very good relationships with our suppliers, who give us discounts and commission, so that when we assemble a tour packages it’s less expensive than if you were purchasing the elements piece-meal. And of course, you get it all put together with our experience in Iceland – and that brings value that can’t really be measured.  EXTRAS may include Accommodations on the nights before and/or after the official tours; usually in good tourist grade hotels (always with private baths). Some riding tours include upgrades from the lodgings that would be considered as a part of the outfitter's tour, but that we felt were not quite comfortable enough, so we put our clients elsewhere. You're not limited to these hotels or guest houses, either - We regularly book clients into the finest hotels.

On some of the tours – riding tours that is– travel through Iceland’s remote and wild areas which offer great scenery and a wonderful experience but limited creature comforts - you may not have as much hot water or privacy on the ride. But we try to compensate for the traditional nights by including, when the itinerary allows, a comfy night's sleep in a nice hotel with private baths before and/or after your tour.

If you’re watching the budget on a trip to Iceland - Look at our tour prices – Look at what is included in the package - And see how much you’re getting at that price.

BARGAINS

Iceland has been neck deep in the current worldwide financial mess, and one way they’ve addressed it is by devaluing their currency, the Icelandic Kronur (ISK). This works in two directions for travelers: the good one is that many of the elements that originate in Iceland have gotten cheaper - high end hotel rooms are one example of this. But the other impact is that many things that Icelanders need to survive must be imported so they have much higher prices. Take food for example – the climate and landscape allow very little agriculture, other than sheep and fish, and there are very few production facilities. Icelanders are paying for their imports with a devalued currency and so paying much more than they had been; Wages have marched steadily upward and inflation has been above 10% for a long time, so that adds up as well.  The uncertainty with which the world looks at Iceland’s economy doesn’t make financing anything less expensive.

The reality is that Iceland is relatively less expensive than it was a while ago – and significantly less expensive than a couple years ago. It’s still an island in the North Atlantic that has to import many of its necessities, produces little that it consumes and now is facing a massive public debt.  So figure it to cost much what other cities in the Northern Hemisphere typically cost (rather than being one of the most expensive places on earth!)  But for real cheap travel, you need to go somewhere warm and self contained. Iceland is still one of the most beautiful and interesting places on earth – and now less pricey to boot!

PRICE STABILITY
The nature of the travel industry being what it is, pricing sometimes changes.  Some components we buy are still priced to us in Icelandic Kronur, so our prices may reflect this. Also, airline policies may causes changes – particularly in fuel surcharges and US departure taxes. Usually we will post current prices weekly on this website. Until you have booked a tour with a down payment the prices we publish here and elsewhere may be changed; once you’ve given us a deposit and booked your tour, of course, the price is the price.

NUMBER OF DAYS
The travel day’s figure in most of our activity tours are the number of days you must allot for travel to Iceland and the tour itself. Sometimes a tour ends its activity the night before and the last day is a transfer day. If you have to spend an overnight in Iceland usually we include accommodations in the total tour package and price. If you look closely at the itineraries you can see what time on a tour is spent in travel. If something isn't clear call or email us and we'll help you figure it.
