| A wide-ranging tour that show the best of two very interesting, very different northern islands~ Iceland and Greenland. This 9 day tour shows the amazing diversity of nature and culture in these ancient lands - with boiling water spouts, geothermal springs and mighty waterfalls on the small green island, and the inland icecap, ice filled fjords and ancient Inuit culture on the large icey one. All of which is tied together by following the Viking trails of over 1000 years ago.
You'll get to start with your first day in Iceland's capital city of Reykjavik, to rest and relax then it's off on a short flight to Greenland, where you'll have a couple of days to chose optional excursions to see the fjords, ice cap, Innuit culture and Viking ruins of south Greenland before returning to Iceland for some guided tours to some of the most interesting sights of this action packed island. If you're interested in the old Viking ways, geology, glaciers, ancient hunters or modern Euro tech life, this is a hard tour to pass up!! Here's an outline for the Iceland and South Greenland Adventure, which departs from Reykjavík weekly in July and August. Here's a brief outline of the itinerarySunday Monday Tuesday Once in Greenland you’ll be in the capable hands of the Arctic Adventure guide who will get you to the boat which will take you down Eric’s Fjord, to South Greenland’s main town of Narsaq, and then to your hotel for check-in and an informational meeting. Then you can enjoy some of the optional excursions. Narsaq The glaciers north of the town ensure that there are almost always icebergs around Narsaq, and the fjords around the Narsaq peninsula are rich in seals, salmon, trout and minke whales. The temperature varies from plus 22º C (72º F) in the summer to minus 17º C (1º F) in the winter. Narsaq is the starting point for many activities and excursions. It has a population of more than 2000 people, many of whom are fisherman or sheep farmers. As the town is situated close to the ice cap, boat trips to glaciers are very impressive, and visits to Norse ruins and long hikes are also popular activities. The valleys and mountains in Narsaq’s hinterland are paradise for those interested in geology. The area has many rare and unique rocks and minerals that are not found anywhere else in the world. Wednesday, Thursday, Friday These are the optional excursions during stay in Narsaq: City walk Narsaq Walk through Narsaq where the guide will talk about daily life in a Greenland town. You’ll visit the newer part as well as the old kayak harbor, where local hunters still bring in seals. A visit to one of the local stores and the local market “Brædtet” show how the old way of life still exists with the modern way of life. Lunch and visit to the little museum included.Price: DKK 400 including lunch, 5 hours* Easy hike - The Dyrnaes Peninsula A leisurely hike includes a visit to a non-excavated Viking ruin, remains from the Eskimos, as well as beautiful Arctic scenery. This hike is not that demanding and most clients will be able to participate.Price: DKK 300, 3 hours* By boat to the Inland Ice Cap Boat across the ice filled Bredefiord to a fiord system northwest of Narsaq leading up to the impressive Twin Glaciers, where you’ll go ashore on a small rock emerging from the glacier front. Here you’ll enjoy your packed lunch before continuing into another fiord with bird cliffs and a big waterfall.Price: DKK 1000 including lunch, 4 hours* Hike - The Dyrnaes Peninsula and Kvanefjeld Price: DKK 600 including lunch, 5-6 hours* Half day by boat to Eskimo ruins Boat across the Narsaq sound among numerous icebergs to a natural harbor where you go ashore to see the ruins of Eskimo dwellings and some “jumping stones” - a popular game in the old Eskimo world.Price: DKK 600, 3 hours* Full day tour to Qaqortoq including city walk Sail through the narrow Mato Strait to the biggest town in South Greenland, Qaqortoq. The old town center from the 1750’s is still intact and the contemporary art project “Stone & Man” can be seen all over town, with more than 40 sculptures made into the rocks. Lunch at the cozy little restaurant Napparsivik which is one of the oldest houses in the old square.Price: DKK 1100 including lunch, 6-7 hours* Evening cruise Price: DKK 500, 1½ -2 hours* *Expedition times are approximate. Saturday Sunday Monday From the geothermal valley of Haukadalur, home of Geysir, the original boiling water spout, to the double waterfalls at Gullfoss, then national park at Thingvellir, where Europe’s first parliament started meeting in the ninth century, and the greenhouse village of Hveragerdi, you’ll see parts of Iceland’s complex history and unusual landscape. There will be a lunch stop and you’ll be back in Reykjavik late afternoon. This might be a good night to sample one of Iceland’s more upscale restaurants, and if you're hardy, some of its famous nightlife. Tuesday

Also includes transfers to and from Keflavik Airport, 4 nights in Iceland in double rooms in 3 or 4 star hotels, all with private baths, with breakfast every day, 2 day tours with hotel pick up and drop off, Air Iceland flights to and from Narsarsuaq, 4 nights in double rooms at the Hotel Narsaq with private bath, breakfast, and dinner, local guide to assist with airport transfers and excursion booking. Not included in the price are travel insurance, lunches in Greenland, meals other than breakfast in Iceland, and optional excursions in Greenland, which can only be booked locally. Accommodations in Greenland:Hotel Narsaq In addition to top quality and service, Hotel Narsaq offers a personal touch and attention to detail.Breakfast and dinner are served daily in the hotel restaurant. All rooms have a TV, mini bar and safe. There is also everything you need to make yourself a cozy cup of tea or coffee in your room. Guests can enjoy drinks at the hotel bar in the evenings. Arctic weather conditions and limited capacity in Greenland may cause traffic delays resulting in interruptions, limitations or changes in the itinerary. This may result in extra expenses to cover meals, hotel accommodation and/or transportation not foreseen in the program. Such expenses have to be paid directly by travelers themselves.
