Day rides near Reykjavik
Day Rides are the perfect introduction to the Icelandic Horse!
So you don't have a week to ride across the Icelandic highlands? But you'd still love to try the smooth gaits of the Icelandic horse? You can easily try out these sturdy wonders, all on the outskirts of Iceland's capital of Reykjavik. Choose between several tours, from 2 -9 hours, that all offer good horses, pretty landscape and, include pick up from your hotel or guesthouse.
Day rides give you a quick taste of riding the Icelandic horse, but that's often enough to help you enjoy their special gait, the tolt, and get a taste of the special character of Icelandics. The Lava Tour
Duration 2-3 hours,with departures daily at 10:00 AM and 2 PM
This introductory tour leaves Ishestar's stables in Kopavogur and Hafnafjordur on the outskirts of Reykjavik. The lava fields of the Heidmork nature park provide a smooth trail to experience and enjoy the smooth gaits, making this a tour suitable for beginners and more advanced riders.
- Hotel pick up 15-30 minutes before ride departure time. $50 per person
The Viking Tour
Duration 6-7 hours, with departures daily at 10:00 AM
Following an introduction to the horse by the Ishestar staff, riders will head out through the canyons and caves of the Heidmork nature park. The smooth lava pathways will let riders feel how to move with their horses, to build their skills so they can enjoy the gaits and temperament of these sturdy mounts. A picnic lunch will be served during a break,and a return to the stables around 4 PM. This ride offers a real taste of a much longer riding trek, but you'll end up in the comfort of your hotel at the end.
- Hotel pick-up is between 9:30 and 9:50 the morning of the ride. $120 per person
Blue Lagoon Tour
A day trip that takes 5-6 hourse, with departures daily at 10:00 AM
A bit of the best parts of Iceland.! Starting at Ishestar's stables, riders will enjoy an hour and a half ride through Heidsmork nature parks, followed by a lunch of traditional Icelandic specialties, which includes lamb, flatbread, smoked salmon and Iceland's famous drink, Brennivin. Then a short drive will take you to the Blue Lagoon, one of Icelands geothermal wonders. Here the warm blue mineral rich waters will provide marvelous relaxation after a little ride. (Entrance fee and towel are included in our price!) You'll return to your hotel, around 4 PM, refreshed, having enjoyed several of Icelands greatest pleasures all in one day!

Geysir - Gullfoss
Duration 8-9 hours, with departures daily at 10:00 AM
This ride offers a chance to enjoy many parts of Iceland! The ride will start at Ishestar's stables in Kopavogur or Hafnafjordur, winding through trails in the surrounding countryside. A traditional Icelandic lunch will be served-with smoked lamb, salmon, flat bread, Brennivin and coffee. A short drive will take riders to see Geysir (the original geyser) and Gullfoss ("Golden Falls" - one of the biggest in Europe) - some of the most dramatic landscape in southern Iceland. You'll return to your hotel around 6PM after a full Icelandic day!
