Rafting in Iceland
snorkel in Iceland Cost and Accommodations
You have a choice between three different accommodations at different prices.

Time Flexibility
This tour can be started any week of the summer

Based in Reykjavik
Nights are all back in the Capital

Kayaking - White Water Rafting - Hot Springs - Horse Riding - Blue Lagoon - Lava Caves - Whale Watching - Snorkeling - Blue Lagoon - and a Little More

You should also look at the Viking Challenge. It's got a few differences that some travelers want.

This tour is not limited to people who have highly developed skills in these various activities. It is for anyone with a sense of adventure and in fairly good health. It is basically limited to adventurers above 15 years of age, mostly because of equipment and safety gear sizes.

Here’s how it goes:

Saturday
Leave the US on Icelandair on an evening flight from Boston, JFK, or Minneapolis (flights from Seattle, Toronto or Halifax may be available, too.)

Sunday
After an early arrival in Iceland, you can hop on the shuttle bus at the airport which will drop you at your hotel. The day is free to explore some of Reykjavik. We’ll provide lots of ideas when we send you your final trip documents. Reykjavik’s a fun little town!

Monday
You’ll be picked up after breakfast, as you will be each morning of the Action Week. This morning you’re taken down to the Reykjavik harbor to board a large whale watching boat. You’ll go to sea to see sea mammals, and lots of birds too, as you cruise to whale feeding waters that yield a high percentage of sightings. Your next contact with the sea is on a different and more personal scale. Head north out to Hvalfjordur and after a short lesson in kayaking you’ll do some paddling in the quiet waters of Hvalfjordur.

Tuesday
Explore the lava field between Thingvellir, and Laugavatn, where you’ll go deep into lava caves formed by ancient lava flows that left miles of hollow tubes on this volcanic island.
After this you’ll go on to explore Iceland’s oldest National park - which encompasses the important historic site at Thingvellir, which is the third element in the Golden Circle. This is where Icelanders held their semi annual parliament, along with their courts, and lots of parties for over 1,000 years - the government finally moved indoors just over 100 years ago.
It’s also one of the few places that the tectonic plates underneath Europe and the Americas reveal their edges above sea level. Then get really into Lake Thingvellir, by snorkeling in the very deep, very cold, Silfra ravine. You’ll have dry suits as it’s glacial water, but it offers spectacular views of the lava fissures in the crystalline waters.  Silfra is considered one of the top 10 scuba sights in the world, and its great for snorkeling, too! You’ll be back in Reykjavik about 6 - when you’ll have time for a last night in the restaurants and night spots of the capital.

Wednesday
A day in Hveragerdi for two unique activities. First it’s a ride on Iceland’s famous horses, along soft trails and through deep meadows. Then, after a little lunch, it’s a hike up through the geothermal areas of Hengill, passing hot bubbling mudpits on your way to a soak in a hot stream high in Reykjadalur.  Back in Reykjavik by 6 PM.

Thursday
A chance to catch your breath with a morning to relax and set your own pace exploring Reykjavik. Then, in the afternoon, you’ll be taken on a short trip out to the world class Blue Lagoon to sample its magical waters and its many other amenities.

Friday
Today you’ll start with visits to two of Iceland’s most important spots, as part of the Golden Circle. First stop will be at Geysir, a field of hot springs, home of the original boiling water spout, and these days featuring a reliable geyser named “Stokkur”, the Churn, that erupts every 10 minutes or so. Then you’ll continue to Gullfoss, where the Hvita river crashes over the double waterfalls at 100,000 gallons a second.
In the afternoon you’ll head towards the outfitter’s back country headquarters and get suited up to go rafting down the rapids of the Hvita river - the same river that you saw running over the waterfalls at Gullfoss. After this exciting ride (and maybe a jump in to the river!) you can relax with an Icelandic barbecue dinner! Back in Reykjavik early evening!

Saturday
You’ll have a long morning to relax, (depending on your flight time) perhaps shop or hit a warm swimming pool, before catching the Flybus shuttle and heading back to Keflavik International Airport for your flight home.

Our Iceland Action Week offers interesting days with a variety of ways to experience Iceland’s landscape, along with evenings to sample some of Reykjavik’s many great restaurants and the lively feel of the city where they leave the lights on all summer!

This week long tour can be a stand alone week in Iceland, or its short enough that it could be added to another tour, if you want an active way to get out in the landscape! We can certainly add more days to your Iceland stay on either end, as well as car rental for independent exploration.

We can add more action--top off your Action Week with some Blue Ice Glacial Trekking on Saturday - a day long trek, for an additional $150.

Accommodations
There are 3 choices of accommodations available, all clean, bright and friendly, all with private bath and with breakfast every day.

The Guesthouse is least expensive. It is easy going and comfortable, with a nice breakfast room, computer available for guest use and a 5 minute walk to the biggest outdoor swimming pool in Reykjavik, or about 25 minute walk to the city center, easy access to a walk along the waterfront.

The three star hotel is just below the main shopping street, close to the city center, with computer access, breakfast room, bar in the evenings and easy access to all of the downtown restaurants, clubs, museums, galleries, and night life.

The Four Star option is right in the city center, and newly renovated. It’s atop a very impressive museum built when Iceland’s oldest settlement was found during the building’s renovations.  It’s a great spot, with a wonderful restaurant and excellent service.
